Origin: Either (i) formed within English, by derivation. Or (ii) a borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: English relique , relic n., -ed suffix1; Latin reliquus , -ed suffix1.
Etymology: Either < relique, variant of relic n. + -ed suffix1, or irregularly < classical Latin reliquus (see reliquiae n.) + -ed suffix1. In quot. 1997 after German Reliquie, the name commonly given to the sonata. Compare relict adj.
