Origin: A borrowing from Italian. Etymon: Italian Reggiano.
Etymology: < Italian Reggiano (although this is apparently first recorded later in this sense in dictionaries of Italian: 1935), specific use of Reggiano of or belonging to Reggio Emilia (a1348) < the name of Reggio Emilia (also Reggio nell'Emilia ), a town in northern Italy + -ano -an suffix. Compare later Parmigiano–Reggiano n.
Cookery (originally U.S.).
A type of Parmesan cheese originating from Reggio Emilia; (more generally) = Parmigiano–Reggiano n.
