单词 regimentary
释义

regimentaryn.adj.

Brit. /ˌrɛdʒᵻˈmɛnt(ə)ri/, U.S. /ˌrɛdʒəˈmɛn(t)əri/, /ˌrɛdʒəˈmɛntri/
Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; perhaps partly modelled on a Latin lexical item, or perhaps partly modelled on a Polish lexical item. Etymons: regiment n., -ary suffix1.
Etymology: < regiment n. + -ary suffix1. As noun after post-classical Latin regimentarius (although this is apparently first attested slightly later: 1737 or earlier in German sources) or its model Polish regimentarz (1661 or earlier; also rejmentarz); compare German † Regimentarius (1747 or earlier; < post-classical Latin). With the use as adjective compare French régimentaire (1791) and earlier regimental adj.
A. n. historical and rare in later use.
