单词 remigrate
释义

remigratev.

Brit. /ˌriːmʌɪˈɡreɪt/, U.S. /ˈrimaɪˌɡreɪt/
Origin: Probably of multiple origins. Partly formed within English, by derivation. Probably also partly a borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin remigrāt- , remigrāre ; re- prefix, migrate v.
Etymology: In sense 1 probably < classical Latin remigrāt-, past participial stem (see -ate suffix3) of remigrāre to return to one's old home, move back, to return (to a topic of conversation, way of life, etc.), also in post-classical Latin also to change back (1633 in a grammatical text), although this is first attested slightly later in the relevant sense; compare classical Latin migrāre and later migrate v. In sense 2 < re- prefix + migrate v.
