Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin relection-, relectio.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin relection-, relectio action of reading again (6th cent.) < classical Latin relect- , past participial stem of relegere to pick up again, to read over or out, to recount, in post-classical Latin also to read again (5th cent. in Augustine; < re- re- prefix + legere to read: see lection n.) + -iō -ion suffix1. Compare lection n., prelection n. Compare also earlier relect adj.In sense 2 partly after post-classical Latin relectio (in relectiones theologicae, the title of a work (1557) by Franciscus de Victoria (c1492–1546), and relectio scholastica, the title of a work (1595) by Thomas Stapleton (1535–98)).
Now rare.
