Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French recercelé.
Etymology: < Middle French recercelé (15th cent. or earlier in heraldic use; 14th cent. in Anglo-Norman; French recercelé ), specific use of past participle of recerceler < re- re- prefix + cerceler (see sarcelly adj.). Compare sarcelly adj. and resarcelled adj.In forms in -ée after the French feminine form.
Heraldry. Obsolete.
Designating a cross superimposed on a voided cross of a different tincture. Usually in cross resarcelée. Cf. sarcelly adj. 2.
