Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: re- prefix, sedimentation n.
Etymology: < re- prefix + sedimentation n., after resediment v. With later use compare Italian risedimentazione (C. I. Migliorini 1950, in Atti Soc. Tosc. di Sci. nat., Mem. A 57 83).
Chiefly Geology.
Redeposition or resettling of sediment; (spec.) movement of previously deposited sediment from one location to another by currents of water, landslips, etc.
