Etymology: < Anglo-Norman renovelir, renoveller, renuveler, Anglo-Norman and Middle French renoveler, Middle French renouveler (French renouveler ) to begin (something) again, recommence (c1100 in Old French), to change, to undergo alteration or modification (1119 in Anglo-Norman, used intransitively), to renew, refresh, reinvigorate (a person or thing) (first half of the 12th cent. in Anglo-Norman), to become renewed or reinvigorated (c1170, used intransitively) < classical Latin re- re- prefix + novellus novel adj. Compare renew v.1, renule v.
