Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin renuent-, renuēns, renuere.
Etymology: < classical Latin renuent-, renuēns, present participle of renuere to throw back the head as a sign of dissent, to refuse < re- re- prefix + -nuere to nod (see numen n.). Compare earlier renuence n.
Obsolete. rare.
Drawing back the head in order to indicate refusal or to nod.
