Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin repastināt-, repastināre.
Etymology: < classical Latin repastināt-, past participial stem (see -ate suffix3) of repastināre to turn (ground) over again in preparation for planting < re re- prefix + pastināre pastine v. Compare earlier repastination n.
rare (now archaic).
transitive. To dig or cultivate again in preparation for planting. In quot. 1988 in figurative context.
