Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: replicate v., -ive suffix.
Etymology: < replicate v. + -ive suffix. In sense 3 probably after French replicatif (of a leaf) folded back (1809 or earlier, chiefly in glossaries; a1410 in Middle French in an apparently isolated attestation in sense ‘that constitutes a response’).
