1883 Albion (Indiana) New Era 18 Oct. 3/4 Resht is noted..for a sort of embroidery on broadcloth called Resht work, which is sometimes seen in America in the shape of table-covers and sofa-cushions.

1923 Daily Mail 26 Feb. 15 There is also a kind of Persian patch-work called ‘Resht’. It is really an amazingly ingenious mosaic of cloth, only one thickness being used, and was generally arranged in four colours—red, green, grey, and white.

1960 H. Hayward Connoisseur's Handbk. Antique Collecting 237/1 Resht patchwork, a type of mosaic patch~work produced at Resht, Persia, during the 18th and 19th cent. for covers and prayer-rugs. The designs are inlaid in coloured felts with outlines and details worked in coloured silks in chain-stitch and couched-work. Inferior examples are often not true patchwork, as the small pieces are applied to the ground and not inlaid.

2007 C. A. Leslie Needlework through Hist. 41 Extant examples of Resht work date from the seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth centuries but the technique is much older. Resht work is still done in the traditional style in Iran today.
