A solid phenol derivative formerly obtained from galbanum or other resins but now made synthetically, and used in the manufacture of dyes, polymers, and adhesives, and as an antiseptic and exfoliant in pharmaceutical preparations. Also called resorcin.Systematic name: benzene-1,3-diol; C6H4(OH)2.
