Etymology: < post-classical Latin resorption-, resorptio action or process of reabsorbing something (1671 or earlier) < resorpt- , past participial stem (16th cent. or earlier) of classical Latin resorbēre to suck in ( < re- re- prefix + sorbēre : see absorb v.) + -iō -ion suffix1. Compare French résorption (1746). In sense 2 after German Resorption (1885 in the passage translated in quot. 1888, or earlier; 1756 or earlier in sense 1, originally in a medical context). Compare slightly later reabsorption n.
