单词 resounding
释义

resoundingn.

Brit. /rᵻˈzaʊndɪŋ/, U.S. /rəˈzaʊndɪŋ/, /riˈzaʊndɪŋ/
Forms: see resound v.1 and -ing suffix1.
Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: re- prefix, sounding n.1; resound v.1, -ing suffix1.
Etymology: In quot. ?c1400 (which slightly antedates resound v.1 and also shows a sense which is very rare for that verb) perhaps directly < re- prefix + sounding n.1, after Anglo-Norman and Middle French resoner, classical Latin resonāre resonate v., or related words. In later use probably < resound v.1 + -ing suffix1. Compare resonance n., resound n.
The action of resound v.1; an instance of this.
