Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element; modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: Latin rēx , -ist suffix.
Etymology: < classical Latin rēx king (see rex n.1, and compare Rexism n.) + -ist suffix, after French rexiste, adjective and noun (both 1936), itself after rexisme Rexism n.
