释义

responsa prudentumn.

Brit. /rᵻˈspɒnsə pruːˈdɛntəm/, U.S. /rəˈspɑnsə pruˈdɛn(t)əm/, /riˈspɑnsə pruˈdɛn(t)əm/

Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin responsa prudentum, respōnsa prūdentium.
Etymology: In α. forms < post-classical Latin responsa prudentum (6th cent.), alteration of classical Latin respōnsa prūdentium the answers of the learned < respōnsa , plural of respōnsum response n. + prūdentium , genitive plural of prūdent- , prūdēns prudent adj. In β. forms directly < classical Latin respōnsa prūdentium. The continuing frequency of the α. forms rather than the β. forms in later writers is probably partly after the authority of Blackstone (see quot. 1765).
Originally Roman Law.
Chiefly with plural agreement. The formally expressed opinions and judgements of especially eminent lawyers, influential as a source of the Roman Civil Law. Also in extended use.
