Compare French rétroversion (1632 in uncertain sense in an isolated attestation in a theological context, subsequently from 1783 in sense 3a). Compare retro- prefix and earlier reversion n.1 N.E.D. (1908) also gives the pronunciation (rītrovə·ɹʃən) /riːtrəʊˈvəʃən/.
