Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin resupīnus.
Etymology: < classical Latin resupīnus lying face upwards, lying flat on one's back, inert, passive, indifferent, leaning back, tilted back < re- re- prefix + supīnus supine adj. Compare Middle French, French †resupin (1530), Spanish resupino (1788 or earlier; also 1541 in an apparently isolated attestation), Portuguese resupino (a1632), Italian resupino (a1375), all rare. Compare earlier supine adj. Compare also slightly earlier resupine v.
