Physics.
A unit of dynamic fluidity in the cgs system, defined variously as the reciprocal of the poise or the centipoise. Also: a unit of kinematic fluidity in the cgs system, defined as the reciprocal of the centistokes (rare).

1924 Science 26 Dec. 596/2 Absolute unit of fluidity. Eugene C. Bingham. The term reciprocal poise is not a satisfactory term for the absolute unit of fluidity. The term rhe is suggested.
1925 E. C. Bingham in Industr. & Engin. Chem. 17 47/2 The absolute unit of fluidity has no name, and since fluidities are additive rather than viscosities, the awkward term ‘reciprocal poises’ is coming into use. The author suggests the term ‘rhe’ from the Greek rheo; (flow) to be pronounced ree.
