Etymology: < rheo- comb. form + base n.1, after French rhéobase (L. Lapicque 1909, in Comptes rendus Soc. de Biol. 67 283).
Physiology.
The lowest strength of electrical current (of infinitely prolonged duration) required to excite a muscle or nerve. Cf. chronaxie n.
