Etymology: < classical Latin rīmōsus full of cracks, fissured < rīma cleft, crack, fissure (see rima n.) + -ōsus -ose suffix1. Compare earlier rimosous adj. and later rimous adj.
Now chiefly Mycology.
Now esp. of a fungus or lichen: cracked, fissured.
