Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin rhizula.
Etymology: < scientific Latin rhizula ( H. F. Link Elementa philosophiæ botanicæ (1824) 130) < ancient Greek ῥίζα root (see rhizo- comb. form) + classical Latin -ula (see -ule suffix). Compare rhizine n. N.E.D. (1908) gives the pronunciation as (rəi·ziulă) /ˈraɪz(j)uːlə/.
