Etymology: < rhythm n. + -ize suffix. Compare ancient Greek ῥυθμίζειν to bring into a measure of time or proportion, to repeat in proper time or rhythm, to arrange, order, compose, post-classical Latin rhythmizare to arrange in order (4th cent.). Compare earlier rhythmization n.
