Etymology: < post-classical Latin rhythmopoeia action of making time or rhythm (4th cent.) < ancient Greek ῥυθμοποιία < ῥυθμός rhythmus n. + -ποιία -poeia comb. form. Compare rhymopoeia n. N.E.D. (1908) also gives the pronunciation (riþmopī·ă) /rɪθməʊˈpiːə/: see discussion at rhythm n.
