Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Perhaps also partly formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: Latin rigorositas ; rigorous adj., -osity suffix.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin rigorositas (1432) < rigorosus rigorous adj. + classical Latin -tās (see -ty suffix1; compare -ity suffix). Compare earlier rigorousté n. and discussion at that entry. In later use perhaps directly < rigorous adj.: see -osity suffix.
The quality or condition of being rigorous; strictness, severity; (also) rigorous action or approach.
