Etymology: < French Rivesaltes (1702) < Rivesaltes, the name of a town to the north of Perpignan in southern France, where the wine is produced.

A lightly-fortified sweet wine, white or red, produced across a large area in the foothills of the French Pyrenees.The white Muscat de Rivesaltes is regarded as a finer wine from this region.
