单词 rizzared
释义

rizzaredadj.

Brit. /ˈrɪzəd/, U.S. /ˈrɪzərd/, Scottish English /ˈrɪzərd/
Forms: 1700s rissered, 1700s rizerd, 1700s rozard, 1800s risert, 1800s rizard, 1800s rizart, 1800s rizer'd, 1800s rizzard, 1800s rizzart, 1800s rizzer'd, 1800s– rizared, 1800s– rizzared, 1800s– rizzered, 1900s– rizzert.
Origin: Of uncertain origin. Perhaps a borrowing from French. Etymon: French ressoré.
Etymology: Origin uncertain. Perhaps < French (rare) †ressoré parched, scorched, sun-dried (1611 in Cotgrave, apparently in an isolated attestation), further etymology uncertain: either < re- re- prefix + soré , past participle of sorer (now saurer ) to preserve (food, especially fish) by treating it with smoke (1611 in Cotgrave; alteration (with change of conjugation) of sorir , in same sense (1318 in Old French; < saur , sor sore adj.2)), or perhaps < re- re- prefix + essoré , past participle of essorer soar v. in its senses ‘to air (clothes)’ (late 12th cent. in Old French), ‘to dry (something)’ (c1200; compare also its rare Middle French (Flanders) variant sorer (mid 14th cent. in two apparently isolated attestations with reference to drying linen), which shows elision of the initial vowel). Perhaps compare French regional (Vendôme) resori dried up (early 20th cent. or earlier), which may show the same word as the adjective in Cotgrave, although Französisches etymol. Wörterbuch at *exaurare takes it as ultimately < re- re- prefix + essorer soar v. Compare later rizzar n., rizzar v.In the source of quot. c1745 at sense 1, an inventory, the preposition to is frequently used to introduce items; the quot. can therefore not be taken as showing an infinitive to rozard . Sense 2 apparently shows a transferred use.
