Etymology: < Italian ripresa refrain, ritornello (1536), musical passage which is to be repeated, mark of repetition (both apparently early 18th cent. or earlier, although not recorded in dictionaries of Italian before 1801: compare quot. 1724), specific senses of ripresa reprise n. Compare earlier reprise n. 8.In plural form riprese after the Italian plural form.
