Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin Ripuarius.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin Ripuarius (see Ripuarian adj.). Compare French Ripuaire (1586 in Middle French as noun, originally in Loix des Ripuaires (plural noun) Ripuarian Laws, 1611 as adjective). N.E.D. (1909) gives the pronunciation as (ri·piuări) /ˈrɪpjʊərɪ/.
