Origin: A borrowing from Spanish. Etymon: Spanish ristra.
Etymology: < Spanish ristra string, especially a string of garlic or onions, later also of chillies, etc. (16th cent.; c1300 as riestra ), ultimately < classical Latin restis (see restiform adj.).
U.S. regional (chiefly south-western).
A string or garland of dried chillis or other produce, often used as a decoration.
