Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; partly modelled on a Latin lexical item. Etymons: rod n.1, -ed suffix2; rod v., -ed suffix1.
Etymology: Originally < rod n.1 + -ed suffix2, in sense 1 after classical Latin virgātus virgate adj. In later use also partly < rod v. + -ed suffix1.
1. Formed into rounded pleats. Obsolete. rare.
