单词 beteem
释义

beteemv.1

Forms: Also 1500s–1600s beteeme, 1600s beteam(e, betemme, ( beterme).
Etymology: Apparently < be- prefix 2 + teem v.3, to think fit; but the rarity of the simple verb, and its non-occurrence in Middle English or Old English (though in Old Saxon teman, Old High German zeman) raise historical difficulties of which there is at present no solution. Beteem is parallel to Dutch betamen.
