单词 romanize
释义

Romanizev.

Brit. /ˈrəʊmənʌɪz/, U.S. /ˈroʊməˌnaɪz/
Forms: 1600s– Romanise, 1600s– Romanize. Also with lower-case initial.
Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; originally modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: Roman adj.1, -ize suffix.
Etymology: < Roman adj.1 + -ize suffix, in sense 1a after Middle French romanizer (French romaniser ) (1566 in Middle French in this sense in an isolated attestation (in the passage translated in quot. 1607), subsequently from 1833). Senses 2a and 2b are not paralleled in French until later (1683 and 1874 respectively). Compare post-classical Latin romanizare to speak a Romance language (12th cent.), to make Roman in character (14th cent. in a British source). With sense 2a compare earlier Romanized adj. 1, Romanizing adj. 1.
