Origin: A borrowing from Hebrew. Etymon: Hebrew rō'š yĕšīḇāh.
Etymology: < post-biblical Hebrew rō'š yĕšīḇāh < biblical Hebrew rō'š head (see Rosh Hashanah n.) + yĕšīḇāh yeshiva n.The plural form Rashei Yeshiva is after the Hebrew plural form ra'šē yĕšīḇāh (the first element of which is the plural construct state of rō'š). The more frequent plural form Roshei Yeshiva reflects the Ashkenazic pronunciation of the Hebrew plural form.
