Etymology: In sense 1 probably a reduplication (with variation of initial consonant) of rooting adj.1, although compare earlier rooting n.2 and toot v.1 2b. Sense 2 was probably formed independently; compare earlier rooty-toot n., and perhaps also tooting adj.2 2, toot v.3 3.
