Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin rūderātiōn-, rūderātiō.
Etymology: < classical Latin rūderātiōn-, rūderātiō process of covering with broken stones or rubble, rubble used as filling < rūderātus (see ruderate v.) + -iō -ion suffix1. Compare French rudération (1547 in Middle French), Italian ruderazione (1521 in a translation of Vitruvius).
Building. Now rare.
The laying down of small stones or rubble. Also: a layer of small stones or rubble.
