单词 rumkin
释义

rumkinn.

Forms:

α. 1600s romekin.

β. 1600s rumken, 1600s–1800s rumkin.

Origin: Apparently either (i) a borrowing from Dutch. Or (ii) a borrowing from German. Etymons: Dutch rumerken; German rummeken.
Etymology: Apparently either < early modern Dutch rumerken (1566; also roemerken; now regional (West Flanders) romerken ; < rumer , roemer rummer n. + -ken -kin suffix), with loss of the unstressed medial syllable, or < German regional (Low German: Bremen) †rummeken (although this is first attested later: mid 18th cent.; < Middle Low German rȫmerken ( < rȫmer rummer n. + -ken -kin suffix), with loss of the unstressed medial syllable). Compare (with different diminutive suffixes) Dutch roemertje (1701 or earlier), early modern German römerle (1618), both in sense ‘small rummer glass’. Compare earlier rummer n.
Obsolete (historical or archaic in later use).
A type of cup or glass for wine or spirits.
