Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: rue v.1, -er suffix1.
Etymology: < rue v.1 + -er suffix1.In early use in sense 1 often glossing post-classical Latin miserator miserator n. in the Vulgate; occasional adjectival use in this sense reflects similar use of the Latin word.
Now rare.
1. A person who pities, feels compassion, or has mercy. Obsolete.In quots. with reference to God or Christ.Occasionally used adjectivally: compassionate, merciful.
