Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: bio- comb. form, informatics n.
Etymology: < bio- comb. form + informatics n. Compare Dutch bioinformatica (1978 or earlier).The term was apparently coined by B. Hesper and P. Hogeweg of the University of Utrecht Theoretical Biology/Bioinformatics Group in the mid 1970s.
With singular agreement. The branch of science concerned with information and information flow in biological systems, esp. the use of computational methods in genetics and genomics.
