Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: bio- comb. form, kinetic adj.
Etymology: < bio- comb. form + kinetic adj., in sense 1 after French biokinetique (1912 or earlier). Compare earlier biokinetics n.

a. Medicine. Designating a method of treating chilblains, frostbite, or other injuries of the skin by repeated exercise of underlying muscles. Now disused.

1926 Lancet 11 Dec. 1232/2 Jacquet's biokinetic method of treating chilblains, if conscientiously carried out, is of value. The patient fixes the finger- or toe-joints by forcible muscular effort, and holds them extended in an elevated position for five minutes several times daily.
b. Relating to or involving the muscular movement of different parts of the body. Cf. biokinetics n. 3.
