Etymology: < post-classical Latin rubrificare (1542 or earlier) < rubri- , combining form of classical Latin ruber red (see rubro- comb. form) + -ficāre -fy suffix. Compare earlier rubify v.
Now rare.
transitive. To make red. Also intransitive: †to cause redness (obsolete). Cf. rubify v.
