Etymology: < ruby adj. + throat n. Compare slightly earlier ruby-throated adj.
1. Either of two migratory songbirds of the nightingale genus Luscinia (family Muscicapidae (or Turdidae)), breeding in eastern Eurasia, the males of which have a red throat; esp. (in full Siberian rubythroat) L. calliope, which occasionally reaches western Europe. Formerly also † rubythroat thrush, † rubythroat warbler.
