Either of two liquid hydrocarbons having ten carbon atoms per molecule: (a) a hydrocarbon of the alkyne series, C10H18; also called decine; (b) a hydrocarbon of the alkene series, C10H20; also called decylene. Mag. 4th Ser. 30 356 It is related to rutic acid in the same way that acetylene is to acetic, and valerylene to valerianic acid; hence Bauer proposes to call the new hydrocarbon Rutylene. 1873 H.
