Origin: Apparently from a proper name. Etymon: proper name Rymer.
Etymology: Apparently < Rymer, the surname of an apple grower in Thirsk, Yorkshire, who developed this variety c1750.
Now rare.
A late-ripening variety of apple with pale acidic flesh and yellow skin streaked or flushed with red, used chiefly for cooking. Also attributive.
