单词 bin-
释义

bin-prefix

Stress is usually determined by a subsequent element and vowels may be reduced accordingly; see e.g. binovular adj.
Origin: A variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymon: bi- comb. form.
Etymology: Variant of bi- comb. form, used before vowels. Not found in Latin: it seems to have originated in French with the word binocle , which was probably formed from classical Latin bīnī two together, a pair of (see binary adj.). From binocle n., binocular adj., bin- has been extended in English to other words, especially chemical compounds (see bi- comb. form 3), as binacetate , biniodide , binoxalate , binoxide (for which French has bioxyde ). The phonetic analogy of a- , an- , co- prefix, con- prefix, has probably influenced this English use.
= bi- comb. form.
