Etymology: < saturate v. + -or suffix.Compare post-classical Latin saturator (4th or 5th cent. in Augustine). In quot. 1840 after French saturateur (1837 in this sense). With the β. forms compare -er suffix1.
Any of various devices used to saturate one substance or body with another substance; esp. (in early use): (a) a device used for saturating air with water vapour; a humidifier (now rare); (b) a device for saturating oxygen with ether for use in an ether-oxygen limelight (now historical).
