Etymology: < satyr n. + -esque suffix.In quot. 1757 (which is translated from an Italian original) after Italian satiresco resembling a satyr (1678 or earlier; 1590 or earlier in sense ‘(of a play) featuring satyrs’). Compare French satyresque (1602 or earlier; rare before the late 18th cent.).
Resembling (that of) a satyr; having the characteristics of a satyr.
