Etymology: < German Biotop (F. Dahl 1908, in Zool. Anzeiger 33 351) < bio- bio- comb. form + ancient Greek τόπος place (see topic adj.).
Ecology.
An environmentally uniform region of a habitat, occupied by a particular biological community. Cf. biochore n. 2.
