Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French adjoinder.
Etymology: < Anglo-Norman adjoinder, Anglo-Norman and Middle French adjoindre adjoin v.; compare -er suffix4. Compare joinder n. b, and also earlier rejoinder n., surrejoinder n.Old French ajoindre (noun) is only attested in the sense ‘fight, combat’ (13th cent.).
That which is joined on to something else; an added statement; an addition. Cf. rejoinder n. 2.
